The Opportunity
Our client, an established global enterprise software company, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and own significant capabilities within a large, business-critical web application.
This is a hands-on Java application-development role for an engineer who has delivered complex product features and backend services within enterprise applications. The strongest candidates will have experience taking features from requirements and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
You will also help advance the organization’s AI-assisted development practices. The goal is not simply to use AI for boilerplate code or basic test generation. You will help create workflows in which AI agents assist with requirements analysis, planning, implementation, validation, testing, and documentation while experienced engineers provide technical direction and critical oversight.
What You’ll Do
Own Enterprise Application Features
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support substantial features within a mature enterprise software platform.
- Build scalable and maintainable Java services using Spring and RESTful APIs.
- Translate ambiguous product requirements into clear technical designs, implementation plans, acceptance criteria, and testing strategies.
- Evaluate architectural alternatives and clearly communicate technical trade-offs.
- Develop comprehensive unit, integration, automation, and regression tests.
- Diagnose complex defects and production issues and drive root-cause analysis and long-term corrective action.
- Identify technical risks early and propose practical mitigation strategies.
Advance AI-Assisted Engineering
- Apply Claude, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or comparable tools throughout the software-development lifecycle.
- Design and refine agentic workflows for requirements analysis, planning, implementation, testing, documentation, and validation.
- Create reusable prompts, instructions, skills, agents, and tool integrations.
- Help establish effective practices for specification-driven and AI-assisted development.
- Evaluate AI-generated designs and code for correctness, performance, maintainability, security, and architectural alignment.
- Explore emerging AI capabilities and recommend practical applications that improve engineering speed, consistency, and quality.
Provide Technical Leadership
- Lead feature-level design discussions and code reviews.
- Mentor less-experienced engineers through design, implementation, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with Product Management, QA, Architecture, Cloud Operations, Support, Security, and Services teams.
- Share knowledge across the organization and help improve engineering standards and development practices.
- Build productive working relationships within a mature product organization where collaboration and institutional knowledge are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Approximately 8 or more years of professional software-engineering experience.
- Extensive experience developing enterprise web applications using Java.
- Demonstrated ownership of complex application features or services from design through production.
- Strong expertise in:
- Java
- Spring Framework
- RESTful web services and APIs
- JUnit, Mockito, or comparable testing frameworks
- Experience building functional application capabilities rather than working primarily in infrastructure, DevOps, or application-migration roles.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, maintainability, scalability, performance, and automated testing.
- Experience leading technical discussions and producing software-design documentation.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or comparable technologies.
- Practical exposure to AI agents, specification-driven development, reusable instructions, tool integrations, or similar advanced AI workflows.
- Strong communication, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hibernate or JPA experience.
- Angular, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, or other frontend-development exposure.
- Experience with Selenium, Playwright, Cucumber, or similar end-to-end testing frameworks.
- AWS experience.
- Familiarity with Maven, Jenkins, Tomcat, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Test-Driven Development experience.
- Familiarity with Model Context Protocol tools or comparable agent-tool frameworks.
- Personal or open-source agentic AI projects demonstrating experimentation beyond workplace-provided tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
What Will Make You Successful
You combine strong Java application-development skills with genuine curiosity about how AI is changing software engineering. You are comfortable operating in ambiguity, creating structure, and taking accountability for outcomes.
You collaborate rather than work in isolation, communicate technical decisions clearly, and know how to challenge AI-generated results rather than accepting them at face value.
