What You'll Do

As a Surgical/Orthopedic Registered Nurse, you'll provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and elderly patients recovering from surgical procedures while ensuring safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care.

Your responsibilities include:

Patient Care

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing reassessments.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
• Monitor patient conditions and promptly respond to changes in clinical status.
• Administer medications and IV therapies safely and accurately.
• Assist physicians during bedside procedures and treatments.
• Provide patient and family education to promote successful recovery and discharge.

Specialized Clinical Skills

Provide care for patients requiring:

• Pre-operative and post-operative surgical care
• Orthopedic and trauma recovery
• Bariatric and general surgery patients
• Neurosurgical and genitourinary surgical patients
• Pain management
• Chest tube management and care
• PEG, G-Tube, and J-Tube management
• Traction therapy
• Jackson-Pratt, Hemovac, Percutaneous, and Sump drain management
• Blood transfusion therapy
• Central line access and maintenance
• IV therapy and titratable IV medication drips
• Stroke patient assessment utilizing the NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Cardiac monitoring and EKG interpretation
• Point-of-care (waived) testing

Leadership & Collaboration

• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, case managers, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Supervise and support nursing assistants and ancillary staff.
• Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for new team members when assigned.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.
• Maintain accurate electronic medical documentation.

What We're Looking For

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Licensure

• Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license

Required Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• EKG Interpretation/Telemetry Competency
• CPR Certification

Experience

• Minimum 2 years of recent Surgical/Orthopedic Acute Care RN experience
• 5 years preferred
• Previous Travel Nursing experience required
